Recap / The Monkees S 1 E 27 Monkee Mother

Go To

The landlord is fed up with the Monkees' late rent payments and moves another tenant into their apartment without notice. Millie, a cheerful, middle-aged widow, is kind enough to let them stay. Although they grow to enjoy each others' company, they cramp each others' style, so the Monkees decide to find her a new husband.

Why don't you finish your veggies and look at these tropes:

  • Even Monkees Love Their Mamas: Mike is the best at dealing with older adults on equal standing, but he seems to want Millie's validation. She sees how hard he works to keep the band together and takes him under her wing.
  • The Generation Gap: Both Millie and the guys grow to like each other. They just don't belong under the same roof.
  • Imagine Spot: To show their appreciation, the Monkees play a romantic ballad for Millie, "Sometime In The Morning". As she listens, she daydreams of herself at their age sharing a slow dance with each one in turn.
  • My Beloved Smother: Although Millie respects the group enough to let them keep their home, the natural differences in their stages of life make it hard for her not to treat them like little kids.
  • Through His Stomach: Millie's a great cook, which is pure heaven for the always-starving Monkees.
