Day 457
Kurt is asked to analyze the ballistics in a shooting by a known racist cop that resulted in an undercover black cop becoming disabled. Jay visits a friend in prison who claims to have been framed by said racist cop, Whitehead.
Tully Nelson is released on bail by Trump-appointed judge Trig Mullaney, who treats his court like a reality show. The jury on the Whitehead case is being microtargeted with fake news about Reddick-Boseman's side, and Adrian wistfully expresses a hope in Jay's presence that someone would do the same to the other side.
Jay's friend Craig needs a new lawyer. Jay asks Maia and Lucca to do it. The other side calls a new ballistics expert, Holly Westfall, the woman Kurt cheated on Diane with in The Good Wife. Diane takes up microdosing again and sleeps with Tully.
Tropes
- Call-Back: An expert witness in the case is the woman Kurt slept with in The Good Wife.
- Central Theme: Microtargeting with fake news.
- It's Personal: Adrian tries to convince Kurt that bringing Holly into this case is in fact personal.
- Mathematician's Answer: Marissa asks Jay what he's doing while he is searching on the internet. He replies "typing".
- Sadly Mythtaken: When trying to explain to Marissa who Tiresias was, Maia refers to him as "she".
- Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Subverted by Diane, who makes up some Latinesque words to impress Judge Mullaney.
- Shout-Out:
- To Classical Mythology when Maia suggests the fake name Tiresias Barnes for a fake Facebook account. Tiresias was a blind seer.
- Diane and Solomon both quote T. S. Eliot's "Four Quartets".
