When Sophia's brother Angelo, a priest, comes to visit, she makes Dorothy and Stan pretend that they are still married.
Tropes:
- Artistic License - The Sound of Music: Rose and Blanche rehearse “scene three” which consists of Blanche staring out window as Rose runs in screaming “the Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming!” Obviously no such scene exists in The Sound of Music.
- Celebrity Paradox: Blanche and Rose are cast as nuns in a production of The Sound of Music. Rue McClanahan performed in a production of the same musical at New Hampshire's Hampton Playhouse over two decades earlier, in which she was cast as the Baroness (and just missed being crushed to death by a falling chandelier during one performance).
- Hypocritical Heartwarming: Dorothy calls out Stan for his “virgin” comment about “Sister Blanche”. Never mind the fact that Dorothy herself frequently makes similar comments to and about Blanche in other episodes.
- "Just Joking" Justification: Played for Drama by Stan after suggesting he and Dorothy should renew their vows.
- Nun Too Holy: Blanche and Rose, dressed in nuns' habits after rehearsals for The Sound of Music, end up having to pretend they really are nuns. Needless to say, Blanche doesn't quite pull that off...
- Blanche: [carrying her normal clothes in her arms] We're here collecting, uh, lingerie... for needy sexy people.
- Shout-Out: After the storm passes, Rose goes outside to "see if I can get airborne", a reference to The Flying Nun.
- Trauma Button: Played for Laughs when Rose and Blanche are rehearsing their roles as nuns in The Sound of Music. Rose says, "The Nazis are coming! The Nazis are coming!" and Sophia bursts through the door in a panic telling everyone to hide in the basement.
- Verbal Backspace: Blanche has one after Stan announces the airports are closed and everyone has to stay in place due to an impending hurricane:Dorothy: That means we could be trapped together for days!Blanche: Oh Jesus! (realizes she's still wearing her nun costume) Please protect us and and watch over us in this, our hour of need!Dorothy: Amen!
