The Competition was the seventh episode of Season 1 of The Golden Girls.
Sophia has an old flame from Sicily visit and she wants to go back to a festival with him, but Dorothy refuses to pay for the ticket. However, after Rose and Blanche plan to go against each other in a bowling tournament, Mother and Daughter battle against each other for a prize.

Could be interpreted as Dorothy starting to lose her confidence, though. - Characterization Click Moment: Rose’s serious competitive streak is established here, and as one online review noted, said streak plays better with subsequent episodes featuring it in mind.
