Recap / The Facts Of Life 62 Pick Up

In this swingin 60s flashback, the girls are a rock band trying to get teen idols Bobby and Fabian to hear their song "Hot Rod Lover"

This episode provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Parody: Of the hit 1978 film "Grease"

  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: The Sha-La-la-la-la-la-la-la-las is an inverted example. Humurously, Didi (Tootie's counterpart) tries to name them something simple like The Supremes, but they all decide against it.

  • Beatnik: Mrs. Krebbs (Beverly Ann's counterpart) is this.

  • Celebrity Cameo: Bobby Rydell and Fabian appear as themselves.

  • Girly Girl: Pinky (Blair's counterpart) is this out of the whole group by a long mile.

  • The '60s: Most of the episode takes place in this era.

  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Frenchie (Natalie's counterpart) is this, obsessing over the fact that she was standing on the very same ground that Bobby and Fabian were on and even clutching a pillow that was in the house with them.

  • Stealing the Credit: Mrs. Krebbs tries to take credit for "Hot Rod Lover" when she sees that Bobby and Fabian like it, but the girls perform the song in front of them and demonstrate that they were the ones who wrote it. When caught, she apologizes and says she only did it to save her coffee house, so the girls and Bobby and Fabian perform there to help.

  • Tomboy: Downplayed with Frizzo (Jo's counterpart). While she does wear a leather jacket and acts tough, she wears slacks, and wears a pretty dress while singing the big number in the finale with the other girls.
