  • Call-Back:
  • Cliffhanger: While Cuphead and Mugman explore the carnival some more, Chalice is summoned by the Devil, and she seems well aware that she has a favor to do.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Chalice decides to stop possessing Kettle upon experiencing this in his old and fragile body.
  • Demonic Possession: Chalice does this with Kettle and many other citizens of Inkwell.
  • Involuntary Dance: Chalice possesses Porkrind and makes him dance with Jerry for both her amusement and the boys.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Kettle has woken up in the city with no memory of how he got there with an empty gas tank and his money gone before and even says "Kettle, you old rascal. You still got it!" as he and a goat put on sunglasses.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The boys are surprised that Elder Kettle is a lot more spry and tolerant, giving them fireworks and cookies in the morning. They eventually find out that Ms. Chalice has possessed him. Later on, Cuphead rightly guesses she possessed Mugman when he doesn't drink his root beer in a single gulp.
  • The Reveal: Cuphead claims that Elder Kettle didn't know about the cookie factory break-in after all.
  • Something Only They Would Say: The boys don't believe that Chalice has possessed Elder Kettle until she calls back how they were arrested at the cookie factory and sent to the "Ol' Hooba Dooba". Apparently, she is the only one who calls the prison that.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Chalice has this reaction upon finding that her time has come to return the favor to the Devil.
  • Voices Are Mental: An aversion. Elder Kettle and Mugman still speak with their normal voices while being possessed by Ms. Chalice.
  • Wham Shot: Miss Chalice's fortune shows the Devil on it, cuing an unusually serious Henchman to appear and say that the Devil wants to see her.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Upon getting liberated from Chalice's possession, Kettle wakes up and believes he got himself into a hangover upon realizing he's in the middle of the city with no memory of getting there, his gas tank is empty and having no money left.
