"You're my brother, Frankie. You're all I have left."
Winston Scott

When his brother Frankie steals a coin press from The Continental, Cormac calls upon Winston to find his brother and retrieve it.

Tropes:

  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Frankie and Yen are quite the duo in the final shootout of the episode.
  • Bulletproof Human Shield: Frankie uses a mook to shield himself from the others firing at him during his escape from the Continental. He also uses himself as a shield to protect Winston in the shootout at the end of the episode.
  • Cacophony Cover Up: Frankie's crew use the New Year's festivities to cover up the sounds of them breaking into the safe to steal the coin press.
  • Cold Sniper: The Twins are a sniper/spotter pair that kill their targets with barely a change in expression.
  • Destination Defenestration: Cormac threatens a mook into throwing himself off of the Continental balcony to atone for his failure. We get to see him hit the ground as Winston first arrives at the Continental. The man's head explodes when it hits the pavement. Later, when Winston leaves the hotel after his meeting with Cormac, we can see guys hosing down the street where the man's body landed.
  • The Dreaded: Even in this time, the cops know not to mess with the Continental. The second KD radios that she's on the street corner where the Continental is, Mayhew and some other cops hastily rush over and spirit her away while assuring the doorman that they're not there to cause trouble.
  • Fingore: Uzan loses a couple fingers due to using one of the guns Lou and Miles were selling to try and kill them, but it was loaded with spiked ammo before the exchange. Not wanting him to leave "empty-handed", Miles makes Uzan pick up his severed fingers and leave with them.
  • He Knows Too Much:
    • Winston's kidnappers pop a chef who has the misfortune of having taken a smoke break as they were wheeling him out of the hotel in a laundry cart.
    • The Adjudicator tells Frankie's accomplice just how valuable the thing he stole was, because she has no intention of letting him live to tell anyone else.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Frankie jumps from the helicopter with the coin press case and allows himself to be killed, knowing Cormac cares more about securing the press than he does taking revenge on Winston and Yen. By the time Cormac figures out he's been played, Winston has found shelter and is plotting revenge.
  • Intimidation Demonstration: When KD stops by the bar at the Continental and tries to pay with cash, the bartender flashes a look at another man sitting nearby, and he nods to allow it. What follows is a series of other signals to various patrons and staff that are obvious to KD, no doubt intentionally so. The bartender puts his foot on a ladder to show off his ankle holster while grabbing a bottle. When KD goes to the front desk, the woman claims they're fully booked and then meticulously pulls out a pen from her coat pocket right next to her gun to recommend another hotel. KD takes the hint and walks out after seeing another patron pay with a coin.
  • It Gets Easier: Winston shoots one of the Continental mooks non-fatally to protect Frankie. Frankie takes the gun and finishes the job, assuring Winston it's like riding a bike. Winston retorts that they never had bikes as kids.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: KD ignores a warning from her fellow officers and decides to visit the Continental. After seeing that everyone is armed and being completely casual about it, she chooses to leave rather than further test her luck.
  • Loophole Abuse: Cormac orders a mook to kill another in his office. The first refuses, as the Continental is a Truce Zone and he would be excommunicated for breaking the rules. Cormac likewise notes that he can't have the mook killed for the same reason, so he instead threatens to kill the man's family if he doesn't fling himself off the nearby balcony.
  • One-Man Army: Frankie fights his way through several floors of Mooks while escaping the Continental, most of it having to use one hand to carry the coin press. He's not so much as scratched.
  • Properly Paranoid: Lou and Miles know to be cautious about betrayal during an illegal arms sale, so they booby trap their guns with spiked ammo in case the buyer tries to use the weapons against them. The buyer does, and loses his fingers.
  • Tempting Fate: Charlie thanks the Lord when Winston returns his car in pristine condition. Suffice it to say, it doesn't stay that way much longer.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: The cold, calculating Winston who always plays an angle was once a little boy who wept on learning he'd inadvertantly burned a family to death.
  • Villainous Incest: The twins are introduced with the sister clad only in her underwear, suggesting this... until we see her wiping the blood off her hands.
  • Watch the Paint Job: Charlie loves his Mustang and only loans it to Winston on the condition that he tarp it anytime he parks it. He also gives Winston a gun... to protect the car.
