Recap / The Bridge Ch 17 Henkōten

Key Ring is a Unicorn professor hired to be a teacher in the Crystal Empire. Since the Crystal Empire had been trapped in stasis in another dimension for over a 1000 years, it's his job to educate the citizens in the history and advancements they have missed. He took this job because the Crystal Ponies' unique magic, physiology, and culture fascinated him. He's read the newspaper about Godzilla's battle against the Gyaos flock, and while he thinks it's interesting, his first priority is to help the Crystal Ponies. As he dismisses class for the night and starts packing up, he wonders why the Crystal Empire is populated mostly by Crystal Earth Ponies. He's only seen a handful of Crystal Pegasi and no Crystal Unicorns, which strikes him as odd as the Empire's former ruler before King Sombra usurped the throne, Princess Amore Diamante, was a Unicorn.

As he's about to leave, Xenilla walks in and Key Ring gawks at his massive size and unusual looks. Xenilla introduces himself as "Royal Ambassador Xenilla from Terra." Of course, Key Ring has never heard of Terra, but he assumes it is a far away land like Neighpon. Xenilla claims that he is studying different forms of magic, so he would like some advice on which books to read in the library. Using his innate psychic-based telekinesis, Xenilla jots down a list of books Key Ring advises him to study, grateful that he taught himself how to read through observing the humans.

The princesses decree no one is to disturb Godzilla Junior while he is recovering, so only the princesses and authorized doctors and guards are allowed in his chambers. Blade Dancer wasn't authorized, so she sneaks in. She has to reconcile with the fact the monster she feared and the stallion she liked are one and the same. When she sees the state of his injuries, she is so overcome that she pulls his blanket over him and flies out the window. She then meets Captain Blueberry Frost and requests a temporary transfer. Blueberry Frost can tell the reason why and grants it.

Three doctors examine Godzilla. His vitals are stable and his wounds have closed, but he is now covered from head to toe with scars, and most of them are not from the battle with the Gyaos flock. The doctors are very disturbed, and as they leave, they wonder what kind of life he had.

We have something in common.

Princess Luna enters the room, exhausted from everything that happened. She is humbled by the sight of his horrific scars. She reaches over to stroke one, and is embarrassed when Godzilla wakes up. He asks if she is going to kill him, and she says no. First, he is sleeping in her bed, and second, she is here to personally thank him for saving Canterlot. He says it's no problem, then gets annoyed when he sees his scars. He explains that while his body heals quickly, it only conceals scars, and they become visible again when his energy is low. She starts feeling each scar and asks how he got them. While trying to ignore the odd warmth he feels from her touching him, he describes many battles he had been through. He's memorized them all, especially his first one, from his first fight against Destroyah.

She asks him why he has so many enemies, and if it's because he's an unpopular ruler. He corrects her that he's not a king in the traditional sense. The humans called him "King of the Monsters" out of awe of his size and power, and many Kaiju accepted him as their leader, but not all of them. He fights because someone has to. If he doesn't, many lives would be lost, and he can't just stand by and do nothing. "My mother once said, if there was something you had to offer to others. Something you did well, maybe better than anyone else.... Then it wasn't just a good idea to do those things, it was your responsibility to."

Luna remarks that they are not so different. In Equestria, one of a princess' main roles is to protect the citizens, for they are the ones with the power to do so. She has been in many fights, and she shows him her only permanent scar, one under her left wing that she got from Lord Tirek.

Godzilla asks why so far he's only seen three Alicorns. Luna explains that as far as she knows, Alicorns are not naturally occurring. Twilight Sparkle and Cadance were a Unicorn and Pegasus respectively who ascended to their current status. Celestia, her only blood relative, and herself were found abandoned in the woods and raised by the great wizard Star Swirl the Bearded and his friends. They have no knowledge of their parents. Luna's earliest memory is of a gentle female voice like a wind chime that she speculates may be her mother.

She then inquires about his family. He says he was found as an egg and eventually adopted and named after his father, Godzilla Senior. She says she is sure he would be proud of him, but he becomes sad, remembering his father's final battle against Destroyah, that ended with Senior suffering a meltdown and passing away. Realizing she struck a nerve, Luna uses her magic to ensure Godzilla will not have nightmares this night, then bids him good night.

Why do you smell like my brother?

The next day, Blade Dancer moves to the Crystal Empire and settles in as a new guard. She is happy to see her old friends Shining Armor and Princess Cadance again. They start to tell her about their unusual guest, whom she will serve as a personal guard, but she is so weary from the train ride that she doesn't pay attention. She decides to get the lay of the land and wanders the library until she bumps into somepony. She looks up and is shocked to see what appears to be Godzilla standing before her, but it is really Xenilla. He smells Godzilla's scent on her and asks how she knows his brother. Overwhelmed, she faints. Exasperated, he picks her up with his telekinesis and carries her to his table, muttering that it was just getting interesting.

While doing his best to ignore Zenith's unnatural cold, Monster X mediates, asking himself questions like: What exactly was he? Where did he come from? Why did he have no name? Was he born this way or created? Who was that voice that kept talking to him? Why could he not remember anything past a point?

Journey to a new world.

He stops and goes to check on the recovering Albino Hyper Gyaos, but runs into Grand King Ghidorah. The dragon asks if he remembers what happened to his home planet about three hundred years ago. Monster X has no idea, but he just glares and walks past him. Ghidorah offers to tell him, and adds that they are not so different. Monster X says he doesn't want anything to do with him and keeps walking. Ghidorah realizes he doesn't remember and walks away, chuckling that messing with his cheap knock-off is amusing. Ghidorah fondly reminisces about a gray planet with twin moons burning to death, and of a three headed monster similar to himself.

Monster X sees Gigan guarding Hyper Gyaos' room and relieves him. He finds she has recovered and eaten Gaira's severed arm. Her healing factor has fixed all her injuries, but she seems anxious. Monster X deduces the problem; as Gyaos are a social species, she does not like being alone. He says the master assigned him to investigate another parallel universe and she's going to help him. After considering her options, she agrees. They step through the portal to find themselves in front of a large building, surrounded by humans.
