Recap / The Bridge: Building Bridges Ch 4 The Trusted: Luna - Junior

Go To

Godzilla Junior hears Princess Luna screaming and rushes to her room, plowing through several shelves in his haste. He bursts in to find the room being flooded and twisted by dark magic, then he is unexpectedly attacked by Nightmare Moon. They battle, and are seemingly evenly matched. Nightmare Moon summons five duplicates of herself and resumes her attack, but Junior notices that the duplicates are just illusions. He steels his senses, then reaches out and gently taps the real one on the side, right where the scar she got from Tirek is.

The surroundings disappear as Junior and Luna wake up. It was just a dream the two were using to train. They are really in the glade where Star Swirl the Bearded's grave is. She asks him how he saw through her illusion, and he says the fake Nightmare Moons did not have any scent. Impressed, she notes that many dark magic users can use illusions, but most only concentrate on sight, touch, and sound, so his sense of smell will be an asset if they try to fool him. He says his sense of smell is less effective in large crowds due to the multiple scents, but she says that shouldn't be a problem. He brings up a time they visited the School For Gifted Unicorns, and while he likes kids, the students were overly curious about him and one named Mariner Moon tried to copy his Atomic Breath and broke a hole in the roof with a pink, heart-shaped beam. Luna jokes that means she's a prodigy and she gave her an A+.

Luna laughs, and Junior finds himself fascinated by the contrast. In public, she's always so rigid and proper, but in private, she acts like any other person, able to laugh and joke. He likes that side of her. He asks her why in public, she's always talking in that strange and loud Flowery Elizabethan English, but she doesn't when she speaks to him or Princess Celestia. She says the Royal Canterlot Voice was a protocol Star Swirl and Princess Platinum thought up for the royalty to show authority. It would be improper to use it with Celestia because she is the elder sister.

She reminisces about some of their experiences, like when he cheered her up at Star Swirl's grave, when he gave her a rose bush, and when he revealed how he got all his scars. She says she doesn't use the Royal Canterlot Voice with him because he is a confidant, then comments he must see her as one too, seeing as he just calls her Luna and not Princess. Instead of answering with words, he strokes her scar. Most would see a monster king battered by scars as humbling while a permanent marking on a lunar demigoddess was a blemish upon her form. But for Luna to Junior, Junior to Luna, they just saw themselves in someone they trusted. She coos and leans against him.

After a while, the moon starts to go down, and Luna says they should head back to the castle. They note that Luna usually goes to sleep before Celestia raises the sun, but at this rate, Luna won't make it unless she flies. Not wanting to leave him behind, Luna offers to walk with him, but he suggests she just carry him. She gets flustered and asks why he would suggest that, but he shrugs and says she was strong enough to knock him through a wall, so she should be strong enough to carry him. She protests that she has no problem with walking and being late, and wishes not to bring back his memories of being dropped out of the sky. He retorts that Destroyah and the Gyaos had previously dropped him out of the sky, but he trusts her not to.

Several minutes later, Luna flies through the sky to the castle. She giggles mischievously while Junior grumbles. Instead of carrying him in her arms like he had intended, she holds him in her telekinesis. Upside down.
