Requiem provides examples of:

  • Blatant Lies: Mr.Kaplan spins a convincing story of an abusive boyfriend to explain her multiple fake identities to a state trooper that confronts her. It gets her out of it, with some encouraging words from the trooper to boot.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: A variation. When Kate talks to Reddington for the first time, horizontal shadows obscure Red's face. This was done so James Spader could still play the part of Red, but also make it believable that he was younger, since this scene occurs twenty five years before the main story.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: This episode is primarily about the backstory of Kathryn Nemec and how she became Mr.Kaplan
