Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

• Chronic Hero Syndrome: Eda opens the portal door and gives Luz an easy out, but the riot happening reminds her about a time the X-Men liberated a slave camp and steps in to help.
• Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon, Luz's father Manny died of an unknown disease. Here, he died in a car accident that resulted in Luz being injured as well, which is where she got her powers from a blood transfusion.
• For Want Of A Nail:
  • While the Warden managed to get the jump on Eda and lops her head off in canon, here Luz's Spider-Sense kicks in and saves her.
  • Luz explains that her father died in a car crash and that she got her powers from a blood-transfusion when the doctors saved her from the wreck, this being in contrast to her dad dying from an illness in canon.
  • While in canon Luz was going to be sent to a summer camp to "manage" her eccentricities, here she was meant to go to Avengers Academy to get a better handle on her powers.
• I Just Want to Be Special: Luz admits her reluctance to go to Avengers Academy is due to there being so many other Spider-People that she has nothing new to offer.
  Luz: What's wrong is that my powers aren't really all that special. You saw how many Spider-Men, Spider-Girls, Spider-Thises and -Thatses there are on my world. I'd just be another arachnid-themed superhero who can shoot webs and punch people good. Sure, some people would be thrilled to get any kind of superpower. But, for me, well... What's the point of having special powers that aren't so special?
