Rentarou and Yamame are in the mountains helping at her aunt and uncle's tea shop, which happens to be particularly busy that day.
Yamame's aunt teases that they look like a married couple. The two are embarrassed, but get to work. While taking a break, a foreigner appears and is enchanted by Yamame's beauty. When he tries to kiss her hand, a squirrel smacks him in the face. When Yamame explains that she's dating Rentarou, the man is amused that Rentarou is shorter than her and challenges him to a sumo match. Rentarou agrees despite Yamame's protests.
Before the match can start, however, a bear shows up.
Rentarou immediately prioritizes protecting Yamame by grabbing the shop's banners and yelling to make himself seem bigger. He shouts a heartfelt declaration of love for Yamame, which makes her blush. The foreigner is also moved, seeing Rentarou as a samurai. He asks for Rentarou's autograph before leaving. Rentarou, who figured he'd lose, is relieved. Yamame tells him that she'd still love him even if they lost, and the two share a kiss.
That evening, Yamame's aunt thanks him for his help before sending them off to bed. Rentarou and Yamame discover that there is only one futon, but take it in stride and simply chat before falling asleep. During the night, Rentarou awakens to find that Yamame has pulled him into a hug. Though it feels nice, he still tries to extract himself. Yamame, however, doesn't let go.
By morning, Rentarou is noted to have needed mouth-to-mouth and chest compressions.
