Sam and Dean meet with the ghost of their old hunter friend Eileen Leahy, who managed to escape from Hell and asks for the brothers' favor. Meanwhile, Castiel investigates a series of deaths caused by a djinn and contemplates whether to return back to the Winchesters.
Tropes
- Back from the Dead: Rowena began to create a spell to resurrect Mary, but didn't finish it after Mary was found to be in Heaven. Sam finds it and realizes he can use it to give Eileen a new body, and the witches want it to resurrect their third.
- Big Brother Bully: Emily has some not-so-sweet memories of how Jacinda treated her, which Sam attempts to exploit.
- The Bus Came Back: Eileen Leahy returns for the first time since "There's Something About Mary".
- Continuity Nod: While in hiding, Castiel once again goes by Clarence as he did in "I'm No Angel"; this is also the demon Meg's Affectionate Nickname for him.
- Dirty Cop: Sheriff Roy is actually a Djinn who has been responsible for the murders in the town Cas is visiting.
- Dragged Off to Hell: What happened to Eileen when the hellhound attacked her. She managed to escape hell after the Rupture, but is unable to go to heaven. Sam helps her by bringing her Back from the Dead.
- Heal It with Water: Rowena's spell to restore people back to life involves submerging them in water. Sam and Eileen use a bathtub for her resurrection.
- Hope Springs Eternal: Amid the bleakness of the last few episodes, Eileen's successful resurrection brings much-needed hope for Sam, who becomes convinced that he and Dean still have a chance to fight Chuck.
- Internal Reveal: Castiel finds out from Dean that Chuck is still around.
- Monster of the Week: Sherrif Roy (who's secretly a Djinn) for Castiel's plot and a coven of witches for Sam's plot.
- Must Be Invited: Rowena put a Curse on her apartment that kills anyone who enters that she did not permit. In this case, only Sam and Dean have the permission and didn't even know about the spell, since he came in with Eileen's ghost. The witch Jacinda ended up being killed by it once she entered, and her family wants the resurrection spell to bring her back.
- Naked on Revival: Ghost!Eileen enters the bathtub wearing clothes, but when she returns to life, she is naked. She and Sam anticipated this, leaving a towel for her to wear when she gets out.
- No Name Given: Emily and Jacinda's witch mother is never named, simply credited as "Witch Mother".
- Tears of Blood: Both Jacinda and the Witch Mother bleed from the eyes as they die.
- Toplessness from the Back: When the Naked on Revival Eileen surfaces from the water she has her back to the camera. She wraps herself in a Modesty Towel before we get a frontal shot of her.
- Shooting Superman: Sheriff Roy continues to shoot Castiel after he sees the first bullet hole simply close and heal.
- Voodoo Doll: The witches use a voodoo doll to control and torture Sam.
