Recap / Strong Bad Email E 15 The Basics

Go To

Airdate: Monday, February 25, 2002

Sender: T.J.

Strong Bad: (to the tune of the Homestar Runner Intro) Everybody! Check your email!

A sender wants Strong Bad to teach him some of his "trick's". Strong Bad decides to go over what he considers "the basics":

  • The one where someone asks "Hey, are you listening to me?" and you immediately answer "Yes" whether you're listening or not.
  • The one where you trick someone into looking "over there" and pour some Coke down their shirt while they're distracted.
  • The one where "you bet someone a hundred bucks, and if they win, you give them, like, a hundred kicks in the butt and call that a buck".

Strong Bad does advise T.J. to create his own style, to reach deep down inside himself and pull out some new tricks (as opposed to reaching deep down inside himself in the literal sense and pulling out "like, organs").

Tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: Strong Bad sings an e-mail song to the tune of the "Everybody! Everybody!" song in the website's intro.
  • Exact Words: Part of "the basics" is a prank like this:
Strong Bad: You know, you bet somebody a hundred "bucks", and if they win, you give them like a hundred kicks in the butt and you say, you call that a buck. I mean, I don't know, somebody invented that...and...it works pretty good.
  • Look Behind You: One of the tricks Strong Bad teaches T.J.
  • Metaphorgotten: "Develop your own style, TJ. Reach down inside yourself and pull out something... Y'know, not like... organs. You know what I mean."
  • Realistic Diction Is Unrealistic: Strong Bad hems, haws, and pauses a lot more than usual in answering this e-mail.

Strong Bad: Anyways... email, there'll be another one next week...
