Recap / Sofia The First S 2 E 17 Baileywhoops

Go To

The royal family of Enchancia is celebrating the royal jubilee. Slickwell, the castle steward of Rudistan, gives Baileywick a special snake pin. No sooner does Baileywick receive this pin than he starts having clumsiness attacks. Sofia tries to help by being his steward assistant, but at Slickwell's urging, Baileywick decides to retire. However, Sofia may have an idea why Baileywick has been clumsy.

Tropes

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Baileywick is absolutely furious to learn that Slickwell gave him that pin to make him clumsy and steal his job.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: The first time Sofia is seen with a ponytail.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Sofia has this moment upon realizing that the snake pin has been making Baileywick clumsy.
  • Gaslighting: Slickwell doesn't just try to make Baileywick look bad in front of Roland, he manipulates him into doubting his own competence as castle steward. The latter is what drives him to resign and retire.
  • Large Ham: Christian Borle definitely had some fun singing "Helping Hand".
  • Near-Villain Victory: Sofia found out herself that the pin was making Baileywick clumsy, but her theory was only confirmed when she found Slickwell's book The Beginner's Guide to Magically Cursed Objects. If Slickwell hadn't taken the book with him to the jubilee, much less left it in the kitchen for Sofia to find, he would've succeeded in stealing Baileywick's job.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Slickwell was in a little room next door during the song "Helping Hand", and he was singing loudly with the door wide open, yet Sofia and Baileywick didn't even hear him.
  • Wham Shot: The book cover on The Beginner's Guide to Magically Cursed Objects has the pin on the front cover, which confirms Sofia's theory that the pin was making Baileywick clumsy.
