Recap / Sly 2: Band of Thieves Mission 02 "A Starry Eyed Encounter"

Go To

The Cooper Gang arrive in India to confront Rajan, the spice lord and owner of the Clockwerk Wings.

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: Rajan.
  • Chekhov's Party: The MacGuffin that the Cooper Gang are after — the Clockwork Wings affixed to a statue — are being showcased in a party in Rajan's "ancestral palace." It’s at this party that the other members of the Klaww Gang (The Contessa, Jean Bison and Arpeggio) make their first appearance and Sly dances with Carmelita in a Rhythm Game as a distraction, a photo of the event later used by Neyla to have Carmelita falsely arrested as a Cooper Gang member at the end of the next chapter.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: When Neyla questions if Sly wants to see old Ironsides (Carmelita) fall out of her dress, Sly remarks "As good as that sounds"...
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In "Recon the Ballroom", Jean Bison, Arpeggio and the Contessa made their first appearances in this mission.
  • MacGuffin: The Clockwerk Wings, welded to a statue as a symbol of Rajan's might and wealth.
  • Operation: [Blank]: "Operation: Hippo Drop". Bentley demolishes the palace's main bridge to prevent reinforcements from arriving and distract the guards already guarding the wings. Sly dances with Carmelita as a distraction so that Murray can steal the wings. Bentley uses his chopper to protect Murray till he makes it to the van and they escape.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: While Neyla recognizes him, Carmelita (who has been chasing after Sly for years) doesn't seem to recognize Sly when his only disguise is a tuxedo. He isn't even wearing anything to change his face beyond the absence of his hat. It's only when she sees the calling card in her hair does she realize the deceit.
  • Rhythm Game: While disguised at Rajan's party, Sly dances with Neyla to blend-in in "Ballroom Dance Party" and later dances with Carmelita as a distraction in "Operation: Hippo Drop", the game being where you press the correct buttons in sequential order.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Sly is capable of disappearing within the time it takes for Carmelita to notice the Clockwork Wings are missing and even leave one of his calling cards in her hair like a flower.
