The historic day finally arrives as Slimey and his crew land on the moon!

This episode provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Done for comedy purposes. Selma Chicken apparently has no problem surviving on the moon, especially since...
  • Cassandra Truth: ...the Farmer tries to get everyone to see his chicken who stowed away on the rocket. She does show up on the WASA Mission Control Screen as she's bouncing around on the lunar surface, but she moves out of view before anyone can see her.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: Again, given the theme of the story arc, the use of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity and Mars, the Bringer of War suites from Gustav Holst's "The Planets". The third movement of the Jupiter suite is used for Robert MacNeil's report, and the first movement is used for the lead-up to the landing, as well as the immediate celebration afterwards. The famous brass-and-drums section from the Mars suite is used for the countdown for the launch back into space.
  • Running Gag: Selma Chicken shows up again, bouncing around on the moon with the worms, but because of bad timing, no one actually sees her but the Farmer. She is also instrumental in launching the rocket back into space.
  • Sneeze of Doom: Subverted again, like with Snuffleupagus' sneeze propelling the rocket into space at Launch Day. Selma Chicken sneezes because of the smoke of the engine from the rocket failing to lift off, and its force is more than enough to send it spaceward for its journey back to Earth.
  • Special Guest: A double helping. This was Kermit the Frog's first new appearance since 1990. On a more serious note, the late Robert MacNeil (of PBS's The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour) reports on the actual landing event, much to Kermit's chagrin. What makes it more special is that MacNeil had retired from news reporting 3 years before his appearance here.
