Recap / Schitts Creek S 2 E 2 Family Dinner

Go To

Johnny, David and Alexis realize that no one in their family knows how to cook, while Moira tries to convince her family that she does and that their former cook's enchilada recipe was her own family recipe. Moira is determined not only to pass down life skills specifically to David, but show him and the rest of the family that she really can cook. But first, she has to convince a less than enthusiastic Jocelyn to borrow her kitchen to prepare the meal. Meanwhile, Johnny is looking for somewhere quiet away from the motel as an office. Bob thinks he has the perfect space for him, that space which may require some negotiation between the two on some other matters. David and Stevie have a disagreement about "how over" she is about their situation. And Alexis' difficulty in telling Ted that she wants to break their engagement may be more difficult if she knows something that Ted has done.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Blatant Lies: Ted tries to tell Johnny that he's fine after the breakup. He's clearly absolutely not okay even before he bursts into tears and wraps Johnny in a hug. The first time.
  • Catchphrase: Associated with both Moira and David "Fold in the Cheese" appears on lots of merchandise.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Jocelyn can, but Alexis and Moira can't.
  • Hidden Depths: Moira reveals that she used to have skills that included baking and hotwiring cars, but lost them over the years of marriage to the wealthy Johnny as they had people for those things.
  • Oh, Crap!: Ted realizes pretty quickly that Alexis telling him he's the perfect boyfriend means she's breaking up with him.
    Ted: [flat affect] Thank you.
