Chapter 62

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptation Expansion: In "Dinosaur Seen In Sewers!", we don't see much of Zog of sound mind before he dies at the end. Here, they manage to bring him back to the Lair and outfit him with an inhaler, allowing him to act more clear-headed for the rest of the story and hold a civil conversation with him.
  • Adaptation Species Change: In the 2003 series, the Y'Lyntian civilization were humans who, after alien crystals crash-landed on their island, became Ultraterrestrials that ruled ancient humanity, their various Slave Races a result of experimentation with their Power Crystals. Here, Zog reveal that they were a race of Human Aliens allied with the Kraang, only for the Kraang to betray and wipe them all out, their tech and ruins the only thing left of them.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right:
    • When his brothers and sister try and dissuade Mikey from befriending Zog, he points out they are saying all of the same things they said when he befriended Leatherhead, Napoleon Bonafrog and Bigfoot. They all concede his point.
    • While Zog is adamant that he was not hallucinating Kraang still being on Earth, he is proven right when given the chance.
  • For Want Of A Nail: While Zog falls to his death at the end of "Dinosaur Seen In Sewers!", here the Hamatos interact with a clear-headed Zog long enough to get on his good side, Zog living through to the end of the chapter.
  • Hypocrite: Zog claims that, unlike humans, he prides himself in honor and loyalty. The Hamatos then immediately point out that he attacked them unprovoked and they only chained him up for their safety.
  • Mythology Gag: Zog identifies the Lair as a former Y'Lyntian base, a factoid that was the case for the Turtle's home in the 2003 series. Leo even points out that "Y'Lyntian" sounds suspiciously similar to "Atlantean", a fact that was true in the other series.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Mikey becomes so consumed in the idea of revealing himself to Irma that he sits there in quiet contemplation for way longer than he usually does, even ignoring the pizza that was delivered ten minutes prior.
    • Later, Raphael immediately takes back his vow to start a fight with Zog, Miwa lampshading this.
Raphael: Easy, big guy! Look, man, I don't want to hurt you!
Mikey: That's not what you were saying earlier.
Raphael: That was before I saw how big he was. I'm not sure I actually can.
Miwa: Iyasa knowing when the quit? I never thought I'd see the day.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Zog proposes to his superiors to spare the Hamatos before they destroy the Earth because of their impressive combat skills, their ability to use Kraang tech and their retromutagen.
  • Shout-Out: Miwa off-handedly calls Zog "Jurassic Park."
  • Technobabble:
Donnie: I don't think his species is made to handle Earth's Oxygen. It must be some other gas he's more equipped to breathing. Whatever it is, there must be enough of it in the air for him to survive, but not enough to get the elements his brain needs to function properly.
    Mikey: Huh?
Miwa: Earth's air is giving him Dino Asthma with a side of crazy.
