Tropes

  • Foreshadowing: This episode has the first mention of the Imperial Dukes, the Arc Villain of Season 4.
  • Innocent Bystander: The first bombing didn't kill the intended target. Instead, it killed two others while injuring four.
  • It's Personal: Tan's father struggled with schizophrenia, so he relates to the bomber and even tries to talk him down.
  • Mad Bomber: A more tragic example than most, as the bomber Charlie Pierce is targeting people due to delusions caused by his schizophrenia.
  • Morality Chain: The bomber's older brother Leo helped keep him on an even keel, but when the brother died of Covid, his sibling stopped taking his anti-schizophrenia medication and went off the rails.
  • Red Herring: The bombing is initially believed to be the work of white supremacists.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The bomber is sending pipe bombs to his targets through the post.
