Recap / Runescape Making History

Go To

An old outpost north of West Ardougne is about to be turned into a laboratory for King Lathas's alchemists, but there's a man named Jorral who wants it preserved as a museum. It's up to you to speak to three people who know about the outposts' history to piece together the role the outpost played in the history of Ardougne.

An Ardougne silk merchant's ancestor lived at the outpost, and the merchant will give you an enchanted key that's a family heirloom, which you can use to locate a chest containing a journal of a Zamorakian who once lived there and pestered the townspeople. By the way, remember that key- it will be important later.

A ghost in Port Phasmatys will give you a timeline of the outpost, if you help him reconcile with his wife. On being assured that his information was of use and that his wife forgave him, he will move on.

Convince a Fremenik historian of wars to talk to you, and he'll tell you of two friends who split up because of their different beliefs- one was a Saradominist and the other was Zamorakian. They eventually realized that they had gone too far during a battle, reconciled, and converted to the worship of Guthix.

Put together, the story goes like this: The Zamorakian friend was one of the ones who took up residence at the Outpost. They started terrorizing Adrougne, so the townspeople got some Saradominists to boot them out. Among the party was the Saradominist friend. They mutually realized that they were going too far when they ended up fighting each other, and made peace. They later became the rulers of what would become the kingdom of Kandarin.

When you take your findings to King Lathas, he'll agree about the outpost's historic significance, and it will be converted into a museum.

Tropes

  • Card-Carrying Villain: The Zamorakian who wrote the diary outright referred to himself and his cohorts as evil, although their actions were more along the line of mass Poke the Poodle.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Lathas is willing to grant Jorral's request when he is told the outpost's historic significance.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The silk merchant who gives you the enchanted key thinks that it's just enchanted to point the way to the chest it opens, and lets you have it because he doesn't know how to work it himself. He has absolutely no idea of the key's true power, or the massive impact he'd have on the sixth age by handing it off to you.
    • Jorral himself is this in the big picture. He only figures into Making History and Meeting History, but he's the ultimate reason you have the key and found out it could be used for time-travel.
