Recap / Runescape Civil War

Go To

Following the events of Daughter of Chaos, the Zamorakian civil war continues. The two factions are locked in a constant struggle for victory, and they're each trying to get the advantage over the other...

Civil War I

Adrasteia asks the player for their assistance. She's received an incredibly long, meandering letter from 'Anne Dimitri', who wants to meet the player in the Wilderness. Adrasteia cautions them to be careful, but asks them to go.

The player meets Trindine in the Wilderness, where she explains what's happened: since the Moia incident, she's been placing monitoring devices in various places around the Wilderness. One of them has already picked up something interesting, but Trindine wants something in exchange: Moia capturing Avaryss has helped Bilrach and co hold off the demons, but they're having trouble gaining ground. Trindine has been sabotaging K'ril's forces, but she wants the player to take a more active role in helping by killing a bunch of demons. In exchange, she'll give them the information.

The player kills a bunch of demons, and Trindine hands over the device. It shows a meeting of the Mahjarrat, beginning with Hazeel complaining that Bilrach is late to a meeting that he ordered. Khazard wants them to be attacking K'ril's forces instead of sitting around, but Enakhra admits that Bilrach is right and they should strengthen their position before moving on. She wonders where Moia is, as they've had no word since she defeated Avaryss. Zemouregal hopes that Moia is dead, but Hazeel says that Moia is a powerful warrior and won't be bested that easily. Khazard says that Bilrach probably gave her a secret mission, Zemouregal starts insulting Moia, and Bilrach arrives, accompanied by three werewolves, one of whom is Jerrod.

Jerrod isn't happy about being in the Wilderness- it smells awful, there's almost no prey and demons turn to ash as soon as they're bitten- but he's there representing Canifis, and they're willing to fight alongside the Mahjarrat. Why? Well, once the war is over, the werewolves want the Mahjarrat to help them overthrow the vampyres. Khazard is on board, because fighting with underdogs against tyrants is the Zamorakian way, apparently. Hazeel recommends caution, pointing out that the vampyres are powerful and opposing them will strengthen the vampyric relations with the human kingdoms. Enakhra calls the vampyres traitors, says that she can't forgive how Drakan betrayed Zamorak and says that siding with the vampyres' enemies would let the Mahjarrat put them in their place. Zemouregal points out that Drakan was killed years ago, and asks if they'd really sacrifice a potential alliance with Vanescula for the werewolves. Bilrach tells him to shut up, because he's made his decision- they're allying with the werewolves.

The recording ends, and the player comments on the new alliance. Trindine says that the information should be valuable to Adrasteia, but the player might want to hold off on telling her, because things change constantly and they wouldn't want to give her outdated information. She tells them to stay in touch, because new intel will probably turn up soon.

Civil War II

The player goes to Trindine, who has a slight problem: one of her devices picked up more information, but it was stolen by Nikkel and the Wandering Ramokee before she could find out what's on it. The player decides to try diplomatically persuading them to part with it. Nikkel and the Ramokee admit to having the device- the Ramokee wants to give it to Bilrach, and Nikkel just wants it because the Ramokee wants it. The Ramokee says that they'll give the player the device if the player helps decide whose forces are superior. After they've completed several of the Wilderness Flash Events, the player decides whose forces are superior, and the representative of that army gives them the device.

Upon giving it to Trindine, she says that the device has been damaged, but hopefully it won't impact the recording. The player watches it, and sees three Zamorakian cultists, part of K'ril's forces, wondering where the rest of their group is. One, Lux, suggests that 'Vengeance' got them. Another, Jaxyys, tells her not to scare their third member, Solmestix, with her stories. Lux rebuts that it's true- the legion has been losing tons of people under mysterious circumstances. A bit of banter later, Lux relates the story of the Vengeance saga from the Ruthless side. Once she's done, Vengeance appears for a split second and Solmestix sees her, but Jaxyys ridicules him, saying that it's only a story and it's not the version he heard.

Jaxyys retells the story from the Noble side, and Solmestix sees her appear again. Jaxyys tells him that it's just a story... and Vengeance murders him and Lux. Solmestix begs her not to kill him, saying that leaving Taverley was a mistake and he just wants to see his family and his sister again. This strikes a chord with Vengeance, who tells him to go back to his family and never come back to the Wilderness. The recording ends, and Trindine comments that Vengeance will certainly turn the tide of the war in Bilrach's favour.

Civil War III

The player goes back to Trindine. She has no new information, but she does have a personal request: part of the Kharidian Desert has suddenly become a garden, and a group of druids are nurturing it and trying to discover what caused it. She wants the player to assist them, because the Kharidian Desert is a place of cultural significance to her, and if the druids can pin down and replicate what caused the rejuvenation, maybe they could rejuvenate the Wilderness. The player agrees and heads over to the Garden of Kharid.

After assisting the druids, the player learns that the rejuvenation seems entirely focused on the one part of the desert. They head back to Trindine, who has retrieved her devices and shows them what's happened. In the flashback, Nymora reports to K'ril that Bilrach's forces are advancing and their army is on the verge of collapse. K'ril refuses to admit defeat, but before he can give any orders, it's revealed that Nymora has turned on K'ril and is now working with Bilrach, who invades with his forces.

Bilrach and K'ril throw insults at each other, and then Bilrach says that as the one who first summoned K'ril, it's only right that he's the one to banish him from Gielinor. The flashback then changes to Nymora meeting with Moia. Nymora says that she did what Moia asked, so Moia needs to return Avaryss' soul. Moia refuses, but when Nymora starts to approach her, Moia threatens to crush Avaryss' soul, which stops Nymora in her tracks. Moia then says that she will return Avaryss' soul in time, but for now, there's a lot of work to be done.

With the flashback over, the player and Trindine mull this over: with Bilrach having won, it won't be long before he turns his gaze south of the Wilderness wall. Trindine sends the player back to Adrasteia, where they fill her in on everything discovered. Adrasteia laments that the war didn't drag on for long enough for her coronation to have occurred, but so be it: Bilrach will certainly make a move soon, and they'll have to prepare for it. The player says that whatever Bilrach plans, they'll stop him, and Adrasteia agrees. Miniquest complete!
