Recap / Robotomy 08: "The Trials of Robocles"

Go To

When robot puberty sets in, the robots are sent to an island filled with monsters as a test of their new manhood.

Examples:

  • Baffled by Own Biology: Robot puberty is a rapid, sudden, and bizarre process that requires extensive reading of an operating manual to follow. As a result, the robots spend the first chunk of the episode being repeatedly and unpleasantly surprised by rapid growth spurts, vocal fluctuations, ravenous hunger, and zits that produce tiny kamikaze fighters.
  • Disguised in Drag: While making his Run for the Border, Mr. Dreadnot dressed himself in women's clothes as part of trying to change his identity. Notably, robots do not otherwise wear clothing of any sort.
  • Help Mistaken for Attack: The robots are aided by winged tentacled monsters, but the robots mistake them for hostile creatures and just kill them off anyway because they look hideous.
  • Rite of Passage: On reaching puberty, young robots are required to spend a day on the monster-infested Robocles Island. If they survive its numerous and deadly perils, which most of them will not, they are considered men and given their own motorcycles.
  • Run for the Border: Mr. Dreadnot attempts this when he learns that he'll be teaching puberty to his class after draining his bank account, burning his apartment, disguising himself in drag, and changing his name. He ends up chained to two robots and escorted to school.
  • Smoke Out: Chief Suckerpunch uses the kind where he throws a smoke bomb to the ground and vanishes in a puff of smoke. He then has to keep coming back to respond to comments then smoke out again until he only creates a small puff.
"Just great! I ran out of magic smoke."
  • Special Guest: Lil' Jon as Chief Suckerpunch.

"How can I explain..."

Rather than have to teach his students about puberty, Mr. Dreadnot drains his bank account, burns his home, disguising himself, changes his name and runs for the border.

How well does it match the trope?
