Tropes

  • A Deadly Affair: This turns out to be of the "killing your spouse's lover" variety —Paul's wife killed Danni and framed him as revenge for the affair.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: While it's not clear that she intended things to go as far as Paul trying to kill himself, the revelation that Paul's wife is Danni's killer puts all of her actions in this light—acting completely clueless about his adultery as well as shocked when he's arrested when it turns out that she'd known and been stalking the couple for weeks and creating an elaborate murder and Frame-Up plot.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Paul having an affair apparently warranted being framed for his lover's murder, according to his wife.
  • Manly Tears: Paul gets choked up at the realization that his wife is Danni's killer, then breaks into these at the episode's conclusion, realizing that his actions have cost him both of the women he loved.
  • Soft Water: Aside from mild hypothermia, Paul and Jane suffer no injuries from their fall from the bridge. Even if the height wasn't enough to kill them, walking away unscathed is highly unlikely—they could easily have either drowned and/or been swept out to sea.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Paul again, only this time it's of the "evil" variety when it turns out that Paul's wife is Danni's killer.
  • Wham Shot: When Jane and Korsak walk into the interrogation room to interview the woman who has been visiting a convicted killer, they are stunned to see that she's in a wheelchair and therefore not the killer they're looking for.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The main plot of the episode and it's preceding episode, "Burden Of Proof", is virtually identical to Presumed Innocent—an adulterous prosecutor's lover is murdered, all evidence points to him, only to have it turn out that he was framed by his angry wife.
