Maura becomes the key suspect in a homicide case when Maura’s date turns up dead – and Maura can’t remember their evening together. As the shocking evidence against Maura piles up, Jane struggles between protecting her best friend and doing her job.
Tropes in the Episode
- Easy Amnesia: The episode revolves around Maura not being able to remenber the information around her date with the victim. the real killer blew a hallucinogen into her face which gave her amnesia.
- Badass Boast: Jane threatens anyone who would harm Maura in prison: "Attention all inmates, whoever did this to my friend’s face will have to look over her shoulder for the rest of her life and if it happens again it will be a very, very short life."
- Con Man: Maura's date and victim of the week is a grifter pretending to be a doctor.
- Fan Disservice: Isles has to undress down to her matching black bra and panties, but she's got bruises on her arms and suffering from the side-effects of being drugged.
- Happy-Ending Massage: The victim's wife provides these. She shows the cops her business card "Hot Hands" the tag on the card says "Come in for your Happy Ending."
- Power Fist: The killer uses brass knuckles to kill the victim of the week, he also killed his girlfriend this way.
- The Alcoholic: Dr. Popov has to replace Maura to perform the autopsy, as she is the suspect, but no one thinks Popov is capable. When he does show up he is carrying a crate of vodka.
- Truth in Television: Scopolamine which is used on Maura is known to produce loss of memory following exposure and sleepiness, similar to the effect of benzodiazepines or alcohol poisoning.
