Rigby decides to go back to high school to get his diploma and tries to keep it under wraps from Eileen after he discovers that she wants to date an educated man.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Rigby gets to have his moment of being one of these when he rescues himself and Eileen from the cave, made even better when Eileen agrees to let him carry her out even though she was perfectly capable of walking.
Eileen: I get to carry you next time.
    Rigby: Deal.
  • Call-Back: Rigby, in trying to prove his coolness to his high school classmates, mentions that he’s friends with a caveman - referring to the Season 4 episode, “Caveman.”
  • Creepy Cave: One of only two requirements to pass the class that Rigby needs for his high school diploma is to attend a caving field trip.
  • First Day of School Episode: Rigby goes back to high school in this episode and realizes he’s a lot less cool now than he was when he initially attended.
  • Girls Stare at Scenery, Boys Stare at Girls: Rigby finds supplies and makes a small fire to get some light in the hole he & Eileen are stuck in. He then uses the light to find a geode, crack it open, and use it to light up the whole cave. Eileen exclaims, "Wow! It's..." which Rigby finishes by saying "Gorgeous," while looking at her rather than the sparkling light produced by the geode.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Mordecai answers the door to Eileen bringing soup to a “sick” Rigby, Mordecai completely blows his cover by accidentally telling her where Rigby really is.
  • Soup Is Medicine: Eileen is bringing over some soup for Rigby when she realizes that he didn’t cancel their date because he was sick, but rather because he’s on a school field trip.
  • Title Drop: When the group is talking about embarrassing things they did when they were younger, Eileen brings up “The Eileen Plan.”
  • You Are Better Than You Think: Although Rigby’s not the smartest member of the group and they all know it (including him), he’s actually a lot more clever than anyone gives him credit for. He clearly learned a lot in the seemingly useless “Rocks for Jocks” class he took; enough to light up the pit he and Eileen fell into and get them both out of the cave safely.
