After Rigby ruins Mr. Maellard's brunch, Maellard forces him and Benson (who he blames for Rigby's screw-up) to sign a letter of resignation.

The episode has the following examples:

  • Book Ends: Benson mentions early on that he had to carpool with his estranged father to the park. After resigning, he catches another ride with his dad and this time makes an attempt to bond with him.
  • Call-Back: Benson sings a song he made while part of Hair to the Throne while preparing wings. He later mentions that he had an argument with his dad over being part of the band.
  • Carrying a Cake: At the beginning of the episode, Mr. Maellard is hosting a fancy millionaires party at the park and he brings out the world's most expensive cake. Moments later, Rigby, asleep at the wheel of a lawnmower, plows right through it.
  • Commonality Connection: Rigby and Benson bond over their crappy fathers and how they enabled their negative traits.
  • Demoted to Extra: Mordecai only has three lines and appears in just two scenes.
  • Denser and Wackier: Inverted. Nothing supernatural happens in this episode, aside from an Imagine Spot where the two play The Floor is Lava.
  • Eat the Evidence: Pops eats the resignation letter after badly lying about what was written on it.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Rigby serves as a male, platonic version of this to Benson. He teaches Benson to relax and not make everything about work.
  • Roofhopping: Rigby and Benson do this to get back into Benson's office when they sneak into Rigby's room and hear Maellard.
  • Serious Business: For Benson, it's reheating chicken wings. Putting them in the microwave isn't enough, they also have to be re-seasoned, which nearly gets him caught by Maellard. To his credit though, Rigby agrees that the effort was worth it.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Both Rigby and Benson decide to sign the resignation letter, with Rigby learning responsibility and Benson learning to cut loose. Maellard however is too blind to read the letter and Pops gives him a fabricated version of it, which convinces Maellard to forgive the two of them and let them stay at the park.
  • Title Drop: Benson and Rigby refer to themselves as "the lunch club" in the resignation letter.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Benson gets an unexpected rush when he and Rigby barely avoid getting caught by Maellard.
Benson: What am I feeling right now? What is this called?
    Rigby: It's called being alive.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Breakfast Club.
