The Recess gang finds a fortune teller and decide to play with it. But when Gus reads his fortune that "tomorrow's [his] final day," he becomes a hypochondriac.
Tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: All of the fortunes are subverted. Spinelli loses her 50-dollar bill to Ashley A. (who owned it in the first place), TJ gets a 10.1% on his test (not a 101%), and Gretchen cannot go to the Galapagos because she is a minor. However, Gus is still alive, if forced to serve detention and his trap scares Gelman out of bullying anyone.
- Do Not Go Gentle: After fearing his fortune, Gus finally decides he'll court trouble by trapping Gelman in a bully trap so he goes out on his terms. Unfortunately, the trap gets Miss Finster instead.
- Exact Words / Metaphorically True: Technically, the day Gus accidentally trapped Miss Finster was his final day... of going home on time, as he apparently has detention every day until he finishes sixth grade.
- Four Is Death: Gus is the 4th one to get his fortune, and is told it's his final day.
- Hidden Depths: Gus can create a structurally sound bully trap.
- Minor Injury Overreaction: Gus gets a paper cut and, due to his paranoia over the fortune, cries bloody murder: "AH! I'm wounded! Call 9-1-1! Call 9-1-1! I'm bleeding to death!"
- Your Days Are Numbered: When Gus is told that he has 24 hours to live, he believes that he will die in some random mishap and spends most of the episode fearing the worst.
