Operation: Laser Eyes is the second of six operations in the Call of the Machine expansion that comes with the 2023 remastered version of Quake II.

It puts you in the role of C.G., one of the marines in charge of finding the Strogg Discs that contain the necessary data about the location of the Strogg Maker. He lands in the outskirts of a Strogg facility and must travel back and forth in order to find the disc and uplink its contents.

Three levels comprise this unit: "Outer Complex", "Security Annex" and "Comms Bunker".


This unit shows examples of:

  • Boss Rush: After returning from "Comms Bunker", you're greeted by waves of low level mooks, concluding with a Super Tank surrounded by three Beta Class Gladiators, the only ones in the entire unit wearing their Power Shield.
  • Fake Ultimate Mook: With the exception of the last three Beta Class Gladiators you face, the rest may carry their Phalanx, but they wear no armor.
  • Giant Mook: Near the end of "Security Annex", a Tank will greet you with three Berserkers, one of which is larger than the others.
  • Mid-Boss: A Bloodstarved Mutant, at the end of "Security Annex".
  • Monster Closet: From "Security Annex":
    • After disabling the Comms Bunker lock, getting to the top level will reveal two Gladiators and a Beta Class Gladiator around a Railgun.
    • After entering the next area, three walls will open up, one of them has two Enforcers, the other a Gunner, and the other two Icari. The Icari one is key to a secret.
  • New Weapon Target Range: After picking up the Grenade Launcher in "Security Annex", you're greeted with tons of low-level mooks that are conveniently grouped, and thus vulnerable to your grenades' fire.
