With the residents from Cretaceous China settling in, Nigel sets his sights on rescuing two of South America's most famous extinct species: the Saver-Toothed Cat and the Terror Bird
- Adaptation Expansion: Downplayed compared to the other episodes, but this chapter adds Macrauchenia, Toxodon, and Holmensia to the list of the park's residents.
- Dying Race: While just about every species that Nigel rescues is this, the second half of the chapter shows just how badly the end of the Ice Age has affected the South American megafauna - the pampas are nearly devoid of life, with the few animals Nigel finds being on death's doorstep.
- Spared by the Adaptation:
- The Smilodon cub is saved from death in this mission, due to rapid work on the part of Nigel and Saba.
- In a species wide example, Nigel rescues several Toxodon, which he never rescued in the series.
