Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 18 Who Watches The Watchers

Go To

One fine day (and later, night) after the mission to rescue the purussaurus and kelenken, the prominent members of the park's security division all find themselves undergoing business as usual, while also privately reflecting on their work at the park.

  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter serves as such for all the prominent members of the Prehistoric Park security division.
  • Call-Forward:
    • The harpactognathus egg that John Willowby showed such interest in over the course of the latter half of Phase 1 has the moment in which it first was discovered to have fallen rolled out of its nest put in writing in this episode.
    • Similarly, Calum is shown entertaining the possibility of training some dromaeosaurs himself over the course of this episode as a nod to how he eventually trains Smith and Wesson to work with him as his 'security raptors'.
    • And of course, the bond that Colette is shown to have developed with Hannibal the argentavis by the time of the shutdown in the phase 1 season finale is shown to receive the beginnings of its formation in the second to last scene of this chapter.
  • Cruel Elephant: Discussed in the narrative in that Anita takes note of how, as much of a Gentle Giant as Babar the Columbian mammoth may be, neither he, nor his fellow bull Columbian mammoths Maximus and Titano, are animals that you'd want to have going on an angry rampage, and that they'd all be quite capable of causing some serious damage if they were ever to fight each other for real instead of in playful mock combat.
  • Evil Is Bigger: 'Evil' is admittedly stretching things, but the Columbian mammoths are the largest animals in the main herbivore paddock at La Brea Grand Vista, and the three adult males in particular also just so happen to be the most 'high-risk' animals in said paddock.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Peter and Joe are revealed to have properly started bonding with Geronimo the palaeosaniwa and Sherman the denversaurus (respectively) over the course of their sections of focus in this chapter. Likewise, the beginnings of Colette's own bond with Hannibal the argentavis are properly put in writing during her section of focus in this chapter. Furthermore, Nikolai is seen hanging around Felix and Melancholia the arthropleura while both he and David contemplate on the bonds between various staff members and animals at the park.
  • It Can Think: Discussed in the narrative via how Calum thinks about several modern day animals that have proven notoriously skilled escape artists in captivity. Also lightly deconstructed in regards to the troodonts currently on display at the park due to how their considerably high intelligence, combined with how they only really live as packs over the course of times of feeding and hunting while largely living solitarily as mated pairs at best during all other times, makes them impossible to train in the same fashion as the dromaeosaurs.
  • Malicious Monitor Lizard: Peter takes note of how Geronimo and his four fellow rescued palaeosaniwa are amongst the animals that many of the park staff find rather intimidating, with even many of the reptile keepers treating them with a respectable sense of caution while caring for them. Doesn't stop him from forming a bond with Geronimo though.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: Hannibal is shown in this chapter to be as friendly as usual while in a good mood, even being quite happy to give Colette company in his own way while she is otherwise alone on watch duty at his and Imilce's aviary one dark night.
  • Take That!: Another self deprecating one to the original Prehistoric Park series can be found in this episode in the form of how Peter at one point whispers to himself under his breath that, for all the incredibly busy work he has to do in ensuring all the paddocks and enclosures are of sound and secure design, at least the outdoor paddock walls aren't all made out of wood.
