Recap / Pokemon S 5 E 49 Hatch Me If You Can

Go To

The egg given to Ash by Professor Elm to return to Mt. Silver hatches into a Larvitar. Unfortunately, Larvitar is born severely ill, with its body temperature being far too low for a non-Ice-type. Even at the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy struggles to treat it and things go from bad to worse when the power goes out (thanks to Team Rocket), so Ash must find a way to restore the power and save Larvitar.

Tropes

  • Dramatic Thunder: The thunderstorm punctuates Nurse Joy's attempts to treat Larvitar and Team Rocket revealing their plan to Nurse Joy, most notably with a dramatic flash of lightning right after Jessie's "And now, we have a young hatchling to hijack!"
  • Latex Perfection: Subverted with Jessie's Nurse Joy disguise. While she wears a mask that looks exactly like the real Nurse Joy, the face remains static, and this is one of the things Brock notices when he declares the "Nurse Joy" to be an impostor.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Team Rocket traps Nurse Joy in a Pit Trap so Jessie can disguise as her and steal Ash's Larvitar, with James dressed up as a generic male doctor.
  • Spot the Impostor: When Jessie attempts to take Nurse Joy's place by impersonating her to steal Ash's Larvitar, Brock detects right away that the "Nurse Joy" is a "cheap imitation," and goes over the differences between the real Nurse Joy and Jessie's impersonation.
