Japanese Title: The Miracle of Doble!! Shining in the Morning Sun!

Original Airdate: May 10, 2001

US Airdate: April 6, 2002

The seemingly alabaster walls of Whitestone are not marble, but rather many layers of white paint from ages of being vandalized by the paint of Smeargle. It turns out they are the Pokémon of a famous artist, and they are working through artist's block. Can the twerps mediate a solution to the conflict, or will Team Rocket butt in and swipe the painters?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Artist's Block: The graffiti of the Smeargle is explained by Jack as this.
  • Shout-Out: The artist is Jack Pollockson, an obvious reference to 20th century artist Jackson Pollock.
  • Squick: The PokéDex mentions that the "paint" is actually Smeargle's bodily fluids. Downplayed, as Ash comments one of their paintings smells like turpentine, which is used as paint thinner.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Initially, Team Rocket plans to steal the valuable paintings in Jack's studio. The plan hits a snag when they realize that stealing priceless paintings will land them in actual trouble with the police. They settle for taking (worthless) pictures of the paintings with a camera.
