Go To

Japanese Title: Hibanny, Use Your Flaming Kick! Face Tomorrow!!

Original Airdate: March 15, 2020

US Airdate: September 11, 2020

Goh and Scorbunny are trying to train together, but while Goh wants to just focus on its existing moves, Scorbunny wants to learn an actual Fire-type attack.

  • Balloon Belly: Team Rocket gets this after eating a bunch of chips.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Scorbunny has learned a Fire move and evolved into Raboot...but due to Goh's insensitivity throughout the episode, Raboot does not fistbump his partner and walks away in silence.
  • Bookends: Goh and Scorbunny's fistbump. In the beginning, the two are happy as can be. But in the end, when Raboot evolves, Goh extends his fist out but Raboot walks off.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Goh and Scorbunny have an arguement over Scorbunny wanting to learn a Fire-type move. Goh is in the right in saying that Scorbunny's fire isn't strong enough to create an Ember and they should stop, albeit he worded it as "Don't even try, you're perfect as it is. Scorbunny argues that just because they can't create an Ember doesn't mean they should just give up there and then.
  • Cerebus Retcon: All those times Scorbunny tried to get Goh's attention in Episode 5? Yeah they're not played for hilarity in this episode.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Goh seeing Scorbunny kicking a pebble and feeling how warm it is gives him a solution to help Scorbunny learn Ember.
  • Hypocrite: Goh tells his Fire-type Starter-Pokémon that it doesn't need to learn a Fire-type move, but he still has a Darmanitan which he used to capture that Golurk three episodes ago?
  • Innocently Insensitive: And how. Scorbunny gets extremely upset at Goh when he tells him to quit trying to learn Ember because its other moves are good enough.
  • Karma Houdini: Darmanitan gets away with causing the plot of the episode with his smug showboating.
  • Literal Asskicking: Fed up with Goh's insensitivity, Scorbunny kicks him in the rear before running off.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Goh, you really need to level up your social skills more.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Goh was really trying to tell Scorbunny not to overexert itself over learning Ember; what he did was make Scorbunny feel like Goh doesn't care about him. This also caused him to give Goh the cold shoulder after he evolved into Raboot because he's still mad at him for not understanding his wishes from the start. At the same time, Scorbunny didn't hear Goh's reasonings because they ran off in a huff, so that meant they didn't get to see Ash helping Goh to see things in his Pokémon's perspective.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Goh's Darmanitan only shows up at the beginning to boast about its skills in Fire moves. But without this showboating, Scorbunny wouldn't have the resolve to try to learn Ember nor would it lead to Goh and Scorbunny's friendship to fracture.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Scorbunny evolves into Raboot after learning its own form of Ember.
  • Take a Third Option: Scorbunny was dead-set on learning Ember the traditional way, even though its inner firepower is clearly lacking. Goh eventually realizes that it can use its feet to get enough friction so kicking a pebble would produce the desired attack.
  • What Are Records?: Goh is clearly confused about the telephone booth Team Rocket uses to enter their secret hideout.
