A young Dewpider is cast off to get its start in life, and it becomes one long Humiliation Conga. When it ends up on the beach near the Pokémon School, and sees Lana wearing one of Popplio's bubbles, it ends up falling madly in love.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Bring It: During their fight, at one point Surskit taunts Dewpider.
  • Call-Back: When Dewpider has his Love at First Sight moment with Lana, during the Crush Filter, Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" plays again. It plays a second time during Dewpider's fight with Surskit.
    • Oddly enough, the English dub keeps it this time, though they produce their own version for it.
  • Fish out of Water: Quite literally, as Dewpider needs the water bubble it wears to breathe while on the surface, and ends up without it several times throughout the episode.
  • Get Out!: Dewpider challenges a Surskit that lives in a pond at the Pokémon School to a fight. Though it goes badly for Dewpider, Surskit evolves into a Masquerain, and happily abandons the pond to fly away.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: A couple times, Dewpider blushes so heavily that it boils and pops its bubble.
  • Humiliation Conga: This is what Dewpider has to go through in the first few minutes:
    • First it gets left behind by its brethren; it loses track of where they went and goes a whole different direction.
    • Then it's attacked by a mischievous Pikipek.
    • Then it's launched into a tree by a Dugtrio.
    • Then it has a run-in with a Salandit, which it stymies by webbing its mouth shut, making its Ember backfire.
    • Then it's attacked by another Dewpider.
    • It eventually wanders to the ocean, and while it's first happy, it's eventually chased back to shore by a hungry Sharpedo.
  • Imaginary Love Triangle: When Lana introduces Dewpider to Popplio, it initially sees her as a rival for Lana's affection, and attacks her.
  • Precocious Crush: Likely in play for Dewpider in regards to Lana.
  • Rescue Romance: While it starts out Love at First Sight, Dewpider's crush on Lana is solidified when she tackles it into the water after it pops its bubble.
  • Shout-Out: The English dub title is one to Jupiter Ascending
  • Take a Third Option: At the end, Lana doesn't catch Dewpider (yet), so instead it makes its home in one of the pools at the Pokémon School.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite Dewpider making a web in a pond at the school, the Water Bubble Pokémon never appears again.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: By the time they get to the Pokémon School, Popplio is clearly annoyed by Dewpider's persistent crush on Lana.
