At their next stop in the Decolor Islands, Ash and his friends run into none other than Claire, the Blackthorn Gym Leader. Claire is visiting the island with the goal of catching a shiny Druddigon that lives there, but her Dragonite has run off somewhere. Ash and Iris send out Charizard and Dragonite to find it. Iris's Dragonite finds it first, but their completely opposite personalities cause them to clash. Things only get more complicated when they find Druddigon's cave and a strange frequency that only Pokémon can hear is driving the inhabitants out.
Tropes
- Callback: Ash and Claire tell Iris and Cilan about the last time they met, and how Ash and Charizard helped Claire bring the Dragonite from the Dragon's Holy Land out of its attack rage.
- Character Development: As a nod to how much it has grown since first evolving, Ash's Charizard actually tries to break up a fight between Iris's and Claire's Dragonite. Back in the day, he would have just fought without hesitation. Of course, when they keep pushing Charizard back violently just for trying to keep the peace, it's clear that Charizard's patience is wearing thin, eventually forcing Ash to recall it.
