Recap / Pokémon S15E44 "Ash, Iris and Trip: Then There Were Three!"

Go To

Tropes

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Trip's Serperior dominates Ash's Pignite, in spite of a type disadvantage, by using its speed to avoid being hit with Fire attacks.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Dragonite sports these after being hit by Dragon Claw, signifying how much of a Sore Loser it's being about it.
  • Foreshadowing: It seems like Dragonite is finally listening to Iris, but Cynthia knows something's off. Sure enough, once Krokorok evolves into Krookodile, he throws a massive fit and stops listening altogether.
  • Kick the Dog: At first, it seems as though Iris and Dragonite are finally working together, but he's only doing so to humor her since he doesn't find Krokorok to be a challenge. When Krokorok evolves into Krookodile and damages him, he goes berserk and reveals that he's still as incorrigible as ever. Iris is naturally horrified and saddened by this.
  • Oh, Crap!: Everyone in the stadium when Dragonite, after being hit by Dragon Claw, goes berserk and starts firing Flamethrowers, Ice Beams, and Thunder Punches throughout the entire arena. This Is Gonna Suck for the repairs, but thankfully, no one was hurt despite close calls.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Georgia again berates Iris for her lack of control over Dragonite. At this point, Iris is too depressed to even think of a comeback.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Krokorok evolves into Krookodile and learns Dragon Claw, allowing it to immediately turn the tide against Dragonite.
  • Scissors Cuts Rock: Serperior is able to devastate Pignite with Grass type attacks and knock it out cold, in spite of the fact that it should only do half damage at best.
  • Sore Loser: When Dragonite is crushed by the newly-evolved Krookodile, he goes on a tantrum, smashing up the playing field.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Implied to be the reason why Dragonite appeared to finally be listening to Iris while battling Krokorok, since unlike Beartic and Mamoswine, Krokorok wasn't an Ice-type, thus Dragonite didn't view him as a Worthy Opponent.
  • The Worf Effect: Pignite goes down to Trip's Serperior without even landing a single hit. Even though he had the type advantage and received speed boosts from Flame Charge, Serperior quickly dodged all his attacks, leaving him very tired.
