Recap / Pokemon S 10 E 39 Steamboat Willies

Go To

Our heroes decide to take a steamboat tour but the boat doesn't leave until noon. While their trainers leave to get some shopping done, the Pokemon stay on board to have some fun before the tour. They enjoy themselves until Pachirisu accidentally starts the boat moving and the situation becomes even more dire when they realize they are heading for a giant waterfall!

Tropes

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Pikachu and Piplup are praised by the captain for getting the youngest Pokemon (Happiny and Pachirisu) off on Staravia first during the crisis.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Pikachu returns to this status trying to get Pachirisu down to the ground.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Dawn takes a brief moment to note how adorable Aipom and Buneary look in their tiny dresses.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This plays very similarly to the Pikachu shorts, since the team's Pokemon get the bulk of the focus.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The Dreadful Musician scene likely inspired the dub title, as it's somewhat reminiscent of the music scene in the classic Mickey Mouse short Steamboat Willie.
  • Dreadful Musician: Pikachu and a few other Pokémon start playing music on the boat and it makes a terrible noise that drives Staravia insane.
  • Fingerless Hands: Turtwig is somehow able to handle a pair of drumsticks despite only having hoof-like appendages.
  • Imagine Spot: Pachirisu decides to tie itself to some balloons to fly after imagining itself keeping up with Staravia in the air.
  • Stage Magician: Piplup plays around with some of the stage magic props and it turns out he's pretty damn good at it!
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to a short that refers to another mouse that isn't electric.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Without Croagunk around to Poison Jab him, Brock is free to spend his time at the store just flirting.
