Recap / Pokémon HAC 8 Riptide vs Hisscor

Go To

Now traveling to Fillydelphia for the next Gym Badge, Flash and his friends encounter a troublesome Hisscor that harasses Riptide.

  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter focuses on Flash's Riptide and its conflict with the Hisscor.
  • Dream-Crushing Handicap: Subverted with Riptide. Despite seeming like his Adamant Nature makes him a liability due to it decreasing the power of his Special Attacks, Flash decides they just need to focus on his Physical attacks instead, since those get increased by his Adamant Nature. This leads to Riptide eventually learning Rock Smash and using it to defeat Hisscor.
  • Fireballs: The Hisscor's primary attack is to shoot out fireballs from its mouth.
  • Kick the Dog: Twilight recommends replacing Riptide with a new Water-Type after they find out that Riptide has the Adamant Nature, stating it is a disadvantage since it decreases the power of Special Attacks, which most Water-Types naturally are. She realizes she was wrong later and apologizes.
  • A Pet into the Wild: Given the Hisscor's strategic mind, Twilight theorizes that it was previously captured and then left its trainer when it broke its Pokéball.
  • Poisoned Weapons: In addition to fireballs, the Hisscor can fire poison darts, which hits Riptide and incapacitates him.
