As the group continue their visit to the Dragon Kingdom, and Flash ponders Hopper's potential future, Ryu reaches his breaking point and challenges Flash for the right of ownership over the prince. Meanwhile, an old foe of the Dragon Kingdom slowly makes their return.
- Actually Pretty Funny: Mercy lets out a laugh when Hopper questions if the tunnels leading to the Dragon Kingdom are part of their kingdom too, since they aren't "touched by the light".
- Bait-and-Switch: At the end of the battle when Hopper has Noivern pinned down, Flash gives Hopper the command "Do it," and Hopper nods before taking a deep breath, apparently preparing an attack. Instead, he simply roars in Noivern's face, causing him to flinch in terror, but showing him mercy.
- Exact Words: When Titan shows Hopper their kingdom he tells him "Everything the light touches, is our kingdom." When Hopper questions if this includes the tunnels that lead to the kingdom, since they aren't touched by the light, Titan amends it to " Everything the light touches, plus the tunnels leading here, is our kingdom."
- High-Altitude Battle: Partway through Flash and Ryu's battle, they both ride on Hopper and Noivern respectively after Ryu gets on Noivern's back during the battle and says this is how a true Dragon Trainer battles. At one point during the battle, Flash leaps off Hopper's back and lands on Noivern, tackling Ryu off and sending both of them crashing into the lake below them, while also leaving Noivern vulnerable to be attacked by Hopper.
- "I Can't Look!" Gesture: During the battle between Hopper and Ryu's Noivern, when Hopper is slammed into the ground by Aerial Ace, Mercy covers her eyes with her wings to keep from watching anymore, not wanting to see her child in pain.
- Loophole Abuse: Flash and Ryu's battle might be to decide the fate of Hopper, but Hopper still belongs to Flash for the time being so he is allowed to use him in the battle, especially since he volunteered to battle himself and decide his own fate. Ryu tries to argue against this, only for both Twilight and Drayce to point out it is allowed.
- Mating Dance: The group sees an Altaria attempt to court another with a mating dance. It turns out to be a success, with the female eventually mimicking the dance to show she accepts.
- My God, What Have I Done?: When Ryu is chewed out by his father for his actions, he realizes that his Noivern has suffered because of him.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Drayce tells his son Ryu that he has brought shame to his people with his attitude and actions, and tells him he is behaving no different than Cadmus.
- Shout-Out:
- Titan's speech to Hooper saying "Everything the light touches is our kingdom" is just like Mufasa's speech to Simba.
- Hopper and Princess having a late night "date" is just like the one between Toothless and the Light Fury.
- Throwing Down the Gauntlet: Ryu challenges Flash to a battle, declaring that if he wins then Flash must hand Hopper over to him. Flash initially refuses the challenge, not wanting to put Hopper up as a prize, until Hopper assures Flash he wants him to battle Ryu. Flash ultimately wins the battle.
