Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 50 Before Dawn

Go To

In Duckburg's docks, Angus and Camera 9 are waiting for an informant with case containing a very special item, unaware that some shady and heavily-armed crooks are tailing them. At the same time, Paperinik is investigating a mysterious signal intercepted by One in the same area and ends up being attacked by a powerful and persistent alien hunter who calls himself "Raznor". What does he want on Earth? Are the two events connected? And what's the deal with a clearly modern day man stuck with a bunch of hominids in the past?

This story contains examples of:

  • Action Survivor: Angus and Camera 9 are threatened both by a duo of gangster and by a nearly-unstoppable alien hunter, both looking for the item they possess.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Camera 9, when asked at gunpoint to give in the briefcase, complies by using it as a cudgel to knock out the thug asking for it.
  • Blood Knight: Raznor. Senator Kroneus hired him to recover the Time-traveling motor from Earth and nothing else. Raznor not only expects some resistance and clearly enjoy causing as much collateral damage as possible, but he also decides to hunt down and kill PK just because of the latter's reputation. Mocked when Paperinik asks him if this just means there are no good pychiatrists on his planet.
  • Casual Danger Dialog: When Angus tries to explain himself to a furious Raznor, to no avail, Camera 9 doesn't miss a chance to calmly snark.
Angus: "Wait, I'm a TV journalist! You know what that means?"
Camera 9(unfazed):" I think he does."
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The man in the black leather jacket who has to deal with the antics of a bunch of hominids. He's Angus informant, who accidentally used the device and got stuck in the past as a result.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The above-mentioned plots ends up revolving around the same item.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Mixed with Badass Boast when Angus hits Raznor with an oar hard enough to snap it.
Raznor: "I've razed whole planets to the ground for much less than that!"
  • Elemental Punch: Raznor can channel energy from his body to shoot hand beams or just wrap his hands in energy and punch things.
  • Expy: Raznor is one to Predator, resembling a bald, green-skinned version of the titular alien with hi-tech gadgets and his desire to hunt worthy prey.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: Zigzagged, the huge, menacing gun carried by Garth and his pal is meant to shoot tranquilizers.
  • Fangs Are Evil: When we see Raznor's flashback, is easy to notice that Kroneus, despite being a member of the same race, lacks Raznor's pointy teeth and even the fangs on the mandibles, and unlike Raznor, is a Reasonable Authority Figure who hopes to solve this mess as quietly as possible.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Compared to the Evronians or other villains in the show in general, Raznor is just a violent alien hunter who barely gets any respect.
  • Having a Blast: Raznor can shoot energy beams from his hands. Later on, he uses a shield which can do the same.
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: Raznor's pasttime. He even states that when he learnt that PK was nearby he couldn't resist the thrill to hunt him down.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In the end, Raznor is left stranded in the past and hunted down by the hominids.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: After seeing that his usual methods aren't enough, Raznor enters his armory and dons a battle armor complete with hi-tech shield and a heavy mace and a visor which allows him to monitor his prey in a large area.
  • MacGuffin: The mysterious item inside the briefcase. It's an alien device from Raznor's home planet which can be used to travel through time, apparently in spite of microcontractions, but it's apparently faulty. Ends up being destroyed by the hominids in the past.
  • Made of Iron: Raznor takes a huge amount of punishment, none of which is enough to make him desist.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Raznor's line after finding out that he's on Earth, before blowing up the boat he landed on.
Raznor:"That's good... well... not so much for you though..."
  • Psychic Link: Apparently, Raznor has a telepathic link with the A.I. of his spacecraft, which allows him to control and operate the ship even when paralyzed or far away from it.
  • Rainbow Speak: To underline his alien nature, Raznor speaks in red speech bubbles with black lettering. Curiously enough, fellow alien Kroneus has a blue speech bubble instead.
  • Say My Name: Raznor, to the point it becomes almost a Running Gag.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: How the man in the black jacket feels about being surrounded by good-intentioned but far too enthusiastic hominids.
  • Time Travel: The alien device in the briefcase can be used to travel in the past and back, apparently ignoring the trouble caused by the Microcontractions which should make time travel impossible. That being said, without proper knowledge it can only send people in the far past or in the present.
  • Tranquilizer Dart: Garth and his pal have a gun loaded with these to take Angus and Camera 9 alive. They end up using it on Raznor, and miracolously it works, leaving the alien paralized for several time before regaining consciousness.
  • Villainous Rescue: When Raznor has cornered Angus and Camera 9 and is about to destroy them, Garth and his associate shoot him with the tranquilizer dart, taking him out of commission for a while.
  • Wall of Weapons: The armory of Raznor's spaceship, mostly with guns, though melee weapons and bows can be spotted.
