Tropes for this episode:

  • Asshole Victim: When Lisa argues the truth must be exposed because a man died Jack retorts that Adebisi was a bad man and he's not worth it.
  • Blatant Lies: Glynn and McManus's claims they aren't hiding anything.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: McManus refuses to give up dirt on Glynn because he is grateful to him for giving him his job back.
  • Blackmail: Ryan refuses to provide Jack with any information unless he is "compensated".
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Ryan and Cyril blame Jack for their mother's death. Cyril takes it to its logical conclusion, and ends up beating Jack up when he remembers their previous interview from before his injury.
Cyril: You made mama sad. You made mama cry! You gave my mama cancer!
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Omar is in prison for murdering the woman who testified against his cousin in his murder trial.
  • False Friend: Ryan acts friendly with Omar but only to use him to kill Eldridge.
  • Genre Savvy: Glynn knows that allowing a news crew into Oz is a bad idea. Unfortunately for him he is pretty much forced into it.
  • Had to Come to Prison to Be a Crook: Invoked by Beecher who wonders aloud how much his time in Oz has really changed him.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Said vocally worries that the news will use his killing of Adebisi to incite hatred against Muslims.
  • He Knows Too Much: Ryan plans on killing Beecher due to this trope. The only thing that stops him from going through with it is Keller's threats.
  • Jerkass: Jack Eldridge is a smug prima donna.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: On the other hand he decides to drop the Adebisi story when he realises Glynn does the best he can despite Lisa pushing him to go through with it anyway.
  • Playing the Victim Card:
    • Schillinger says he and other Aryans are treated unfairly by the media.
    • Omar claims he's innocent despite having murdered a woman in front of her child.
  • Smug Snake: Jack Eldridge is an unpleasant weasel hiding behind a veneer of respectability.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Ryan tries to get Omar to kill Jack Eldridge. Not only does Omar fail, but this directly leads to Eldridge deciding to bunk with Cyril O'Reilly, resulting in Cyril beating up Eldridge - something Ryan was trying to avoid.
  • Villain Has a Point: Poet isn't wrong the higher ups are trying to cover their own asses or that Murphy is trying to silence him when he talks to Lisa.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: In Omar's crime flashback he spares his victim's young daughter.
