Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: The first file that almost fully focuses on Toriko’s university life and hidden feelings.
  • Berserk Button: Toriko really doesn't like it when Sorawo implies that she is violent.
  • Continuity Nod: Sorawo tracks Toriko down to her university, where she finds her eating. This is a call back to File 1.
    • One of the partners sits down in front the other, causing one of them to shoot a dirty look at the other thinking a random person just decided to eat with them.
    • Toriko is not happy to see Sorawo sat in front of her, in a similar fashion to how Sorawo was shocked to see Toriko tracked her down when she didn’t know where Sorawo was going to be.
    • When she finds Toriko eating alone at university, Sorawo asks her “Don’t you have any friends?” as ‘payback’ to what she said in File 1.
  • Covert Pervert: Implied. When Sorawo mentions that she saw herself through Toriko’s eyes when they first met, Toriko freaks out with Sorawo confused as to why she’s acting that way.
  • Easily Forgiven: Justified as Toriko was afraid that she had gotten Sorawo trapped in the Interstitial Space and didn't know she would be able to return.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When talking about Toriko's course and how she got into university, Sorawo guesses that she chose her course because of Toriko's ability to speak English. Toriko is saddened by this, stating that being able to speak English was probably the only reason she was able to join the university.
    • When Sorawo finds Toriko, she apologies for what happened at the love hotel in File 16. However, she apologies over the Lion Dance, which Toriko was not upset about, instead Sorawo seeming to do anything to dodge Toriko's advances at the hotel is what she was actually upset by, with Toriko calling her out on this. Sorawo doesn't seem to understand why Toriko is upset over this, saying anything but an apology and thinking she's unjustifiably angry at her.
  • No Listening Skills: Sorawo asks what course Toriko is doing at uni, only to have Toriko tell her that she already told her at an earlier date. Sorawo admits that she was drunk (and implies that she probably wasn't listening), which understandably makes Toriko annoyed. Toriko studies English Literature.
  • No Social Skills: Toriko struggles to talk to new people, and thus has no friends at university. She also tells Sorawo that she was only open and upbeat when they first met because she felt that Sorawo was someone she could get along with.
    • Toriko: "Yeah. Whenever I meet someone for the first time, I freeze up and can't even speak properly."
  • Not Helping Your Case: When Toriko is upset that Sorawo was blatantly trying to avoid being alone with Toriko at the love hotel party, Sorawo tries to explain that she ‘’initially’’ didn’t want to go alone with Toriko, however, freezes up when a very upset Toriko asks her if she wants to go again, but alone this time.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Toriko talks about how she's jealous of Sorawo choosing a course that she enjoys and wants to learn more about, as she only decided to go to uni because she had nothing else to do in her life.
  • Wham Line: “...Ah, I understood now. There was no need for a physical mirror.
Not when everything was reflected in the mirror of our eyes.”
    • “A single teardrop fell to the ground. Then a second. -I'm a fool.
Here I was, so sure that Toriko was angry.
She hadn't been angry. She'd been sad.”
