Recap / Opposing Force We Are Not Alone

Go To

Exiting the vent into the Lambda complex, Shepard hears a voice yelling "it's ready, you must go now!" He opens the nearby large door, and enters into the large teleporter room from the tail end of the original game's "Lambda Core" level. Sure enough, Shepard watches as Gordon Freeman jumps into the teleporter that sends him off to Xen. The teleporter room begins to explode following Freeman's departure, which Shepard escapes by making his way to another teleporter that appeared in the room.

Shepard winds up teleporting to an area of Xen consisting of a bunch of small islands with trampolines. A teleporter can be seen high above, which a bunch of glowing sprites are seen coming off a nearby Xen crystal, and are heading into the teleporter. Shepard begins jumping his way up the platforms towards the teleporter, which a Black Mesa scientist is seen teleporting in from high above, and falls to his death. Said scientist leaves behind the Displacer Cannon, a powerful weapon that can either kill all enemies in the area, or can teleport Shepard to random locations in the world for extra supplies and such. Eventually, after bouncing up high enough, Shepard goes through the teleporter that all the small glowing sprites were heading into.

This Chapter contains examples of:

  • Breather Episode: A very short chapter that basically serves as an interlude before things get more serious with Race X and the Black Ops taking over Black Mesa in the following chapters.
  • Call-Back: We watch the moment Gordon is sent off to Xen in the original game from Shepard's perspective.
  • The Cameo:
    • Shepard watches Gordon Freeman jump through the portal that takes him to Xen.
    • This is also the case with the Alien Controllers appearing in Opposing Force, who only ever appear in the teleporter room just as they did in the original game.
  • Nonstandard Game Over: It's possible for Shepard to follow Gordon through the teleporter to Xen. Unfortunately, Shepard would end up teleporting away from the small Xen island Gordon lands on, which results in the corporal falling to his death. The game over message admonishes the player for trying to interfere with history.
