Part 1 of the 5-part origin story of the Mingeworthies.

Tropes for this episode include...

  • Amazon Chaser: Adrian becomes smitten with Everly when she violently shakes down a house party.
  • Battle Couple: When they're together, they are capable of holding their own against a group of police officers and other assorted baddies while on the lamb.
  • Being Evil Sucks: While Adrian and Everly enjoy their life on the lamb, they eventually get burned out from the constant excitement of it all. They just happen to express these feelings within ear-shot of the Sacred One, who happens to traffic in this sort of thing.
  • The Cameo: Cathy cameos filming Adrian violently assaulting Queen Elizabeth for her ring. Later, they kidnap her baby so that they could stay in Clamville.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Adrian and Everly bought the same mask from the same store so they could rob the same house at the exact same time. They both find the irony hilarious.
  • Crime Spree Montage: After Adrian and Everly become an Outlaw Couple, we see a montage of them going cross-country, committing robberies, killing people who they "think" deserve it and swapping identities to avoid the law.
  • Driven to Suicide: The episode starts with Adrian about to commit suicide from his dead-end life. He doesn't go through with it when he gets the idea to move to Maui.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Debbie is revealed to be a spy sent by Queen Elizabeth, who sent her to kill Adrian and Everly for punching her in the face and stealing her ring.
  • Loser Protagonist: Adrian Gelson starts out as this, being an accountant for a tile-company with a house he can't afford. His desire for a more fulfilling life leads to him trying to rob an old bully's house, only to fall in love with a different home invader.
  • Merlin Sickness: Subverted. Debbie only pretends to act younger than she is and having a "Benjamin Buttons Disease" as a cover to infiltrate Clamville.
  • Outlaw Couple: The Gelsons go from town-to-town, robbing and killing random people and switching identities to avoid law enforcement.
  • Red Herring: The Gelsons think the Stensils are a pair of undercover cops who are hunting them down. It's revealed that their adopted daughter Debbie is a spy sent to kill them, having tricked the Stensils (who are everything they claim to be) into adopted her.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When Everly tries using the stolen baby as a Human Shield, Debbie makes it clear she is prefectly willing to shoot the baby.
Everly: You wouldn't hurt a baby now, would you? [Debbie cocks her gun.] You would!
