Recap / Ninjago S1E13 "Day of the Great Devourer"

Go To

Airdate: April 11, 2012

The Devourer has risen. Now the ninja and Garmadon must stop the great snake and save Ninjago from a terrible fate.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Attack Its Weak Point: The Great Devourer has a tiny glowing weak point on its head. Garmadon kills it by attacking this spot with all four Golden Weapons.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Devourer is destroyed and Wu survives, but the Destiny's Bounty is destroyed, Garmadon has obtained the Golden Weapons, and the Devourer managed to cause untold chaos before her death.
  • Disney Death: Sensei Wu is eaten by the Great Devourer at the beginning of the episode. He turns up fine at the end after the snake is destroyed. Pythor also survives, though that isn't clear for a long time.
  • Enemy Mine: The Ninja begrudgingly let Lord Garmadon use the Golden Weapons to strike at the Devourer's weak spot, as he's the only person that can handle all of their power at once. He repays them by taking off to parts unknown with the Weapons once the Devourer is dead.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: As Zane predicted two episodes ago, the Serpentine are not safeguarded from the Devourer's rampage—the first thing it consumes is Pythor himself.
  • Facial Horror: Zane is damaged during the battle at the scrapyard, resulting in half his robotic face being exposed.
  • Karmic Death: The Great Devourer is destroyed by the villain it created, which Garmadon lampshades.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
Garmadon: You bit me once. Now feel what it's like to be bitten back!
