Tropes for this entry include:

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Deidre is taking a criminology class, and Nancy asks for her help with the case which could mean good things for her grades. While Deidre refuses at first, she calls and agrees to help as her teacher found out she paid someone else to do her paper.
  • Dramatic Irony: Victor knew he had to make someone else take the blame for the murder and hired an incompetent detective to make sure it would happen. However, he believed Nancy was incompetent when she was anything but.
  • Foreshadowing: When Nancy informs Victor that Ryan has a solid alibi for a murder, he is furious that she is innocent. Turns out he is the killer, and Ryan was his intended scapegoat.
  • Spanner in the Works: Victor's plan to get away with murder had three:
    • First one of course, is Nancy, who turns out to be anything but incompetent and ended up finding the truth.
    • Deidre of all people is this as well, as she's the one who said Nancy was incompetent and Victor ended up believing her. If he had hired anyone else he might've gotten away for it.
    • And last but not least is Ryan, the intended fall girl, who helps Nancy continue snooping after Victor fired her and providing Nancy with what she needs to escape the Faraday cage.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Nancy finds proof that Victor is the culprit, he ends up knocking her out and trapping her in the Faraday cage with the full intent of killing her to get away from with murder. Once Nancy regains consciousness, she asks why go through with it and starts ranting on how she kept messing up his plan, claiming he made Ryan, Mason, and Ellie look so guilty for her.
  • We Need a Distraction: Late in the game, Victor arrives at the lab and puts a stop to Nancy's snooping. As such, she asks Ryan to help distract him to continue investigating.
