Gibbs goes off the grid when he attempts to reconnect with a terror cell using a deep cover identity, in order to bring down one of NCIS's Most Wanted criminals.
Tropes:
- Call-Back: Leyland Spears, Gibbs' deep cover alias gets revisited.
- The Mole: Someone tipped the terrorists off years ago that they had an undercover operative in their ranks, and the op was blown. In the present, the same mole tips off the lead terrorist that Spears is not who he says he is.
- Call-Forward: Torres planted a bug in Gibbs's wallet by bumping into him. In a "Many Splendored Things", Torres teaches the agents how to pickpocket and Bishop used this to get the Congresswoman's phone.
