After Alex is confronted by Barbara Fraiser with a hunch that Matt Bellows broke a priceless statue to get at a now-missing artifact contained within, he and Cleo consider their next move. They decide to go into the Cyber Museum again, but Cleo has a trick up her sleeve. Alex will carry a piece of the artifact with him, so he can touch it and leave if any trouble arises. Alex touches the screen and ends up in the realm of Norse mythology, leaving behind the shard of pottery that Cleo gave him. He is trapped again, and they learn that they can't bring anything with them.
Alex finds that he has taken the place of Vali, son of Loki. He discovers that Loki is chained beneath dripping venom for eternity. Gorgos, disguised as Sigyn, suggests that Alex try to get Thor to release Loki. With that, Alex sets out for Asgard. Thor reminisces with Alex about the many adventures that he and Loki had together, but despite the good times, he will not free Loki. When Thor finally passes out, Alex takes Thor's hammer and goes back to Loki, intending to break the chains. Cleo tells him this will cause Ragnarok, but Alex is set on freeing Loki. As Alex hammers the chains, an earthquake begins to shake both the myth world and the real world. Cleo pleads with Alex to stop. Finally, Thor arrives and stops Alex. Gorgos, disappointed that Alex failed, leaves Loki to his fate. Reluctantly, Alex accepts that Loki will be there forever. He resolves to take Sigyn's place and catch the venom. When he picks up her bowl, he finds himself back in his home.
