* EyeCam: After knocking himself out, Troubleshoes slowly comes back and opens his eyes to see a worried-looking Apple Bloom.
* FallOfTheHouseOfCards: Both during practicing and the rodeo itself, the haybale-stacking event leaves a rather tall pile of hay barely balanced, and in both cases, Troubleshoes inadvertently causes the stack to fall; fortunately, the second time is after the stack has been judged and AJ's team named the winners.

* GentleGiant: Troubleshoes is among the biggest ponies that have appeared on the show. He's also a very nice guy.
* GoshDarnItToHeck: While in his panic at his trailer, Troubleshoes says "Dang it".

* ImpairmentShot: The EyeCam is all out of focus as Troubleshoes comes back from being stunned after a series of mishaps in his home.
* TheKlutz: Troubleshoes makes things accidentally topple over, break, or otherwise end up ruined wherever he goes. He chalks this up to inherent bad luck. Turns out it's just his talent for slap-stick comedy.

* MadeOfIron: Troubleshoes has this, possibly as a result of his clownish propensities.
* MisunderstoodLonerWithAHeartOfGold: Troubleshoes to a capital T. He loves the rodeo and just wants to be around them, even though he can't compete in them. His klutziness tends to cause accidents, which then forces the rodeos to shut down, so he lives by himself.

* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: The CMC manage to help Troubleshoes realize his true talent and get the people of Appleoosa to see he's not a threat. However, since in doing so they disobeyed Applejack's orders to stay with Braeburn, they're forced to clean up after Troubleshoes's mishaps as punishment for sneaking out.
* NonIronicClown: Troubleshoes becomes a rodeo clown.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Troubleshoes is the second pony in the series, after Pipsqueak, to have a patterned coat modeled off of a real horse breed -- in his case, a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clydesdale_horse Clydesdale]]. Though the credits only give his name as "Trouble Shoes", pre-release material call him [[MeaningfulName "Troubleshoes Clyde"]] for this reason. He's also twice as tall as an ordinary stallion, making him the biggest pony ever seen in the series, including [[LargeAndInCharge Celestia]]. He even has a distinct "thump" sound to his hoofsteps (as opposed to other ponies' conventional "clop") to further emphasize how massive he is.

* NotNowKiddo: When the sheriff and his posse arrest Troubleshoes, Applejack cuts the fillies off before they can explain that he didn't abduct them.

* OhCrap: The ring-holding rodeo clown freaks out when he sees Troubleshoes charging in for the ring jump, which he is entirely too large to perform.
* OnlySaneMan: Sweetie Belle comes off as this when she is extremely reluctant to follow Apple Bloom and Scootaloo into a dark forest to try and find Troubleshoes. She only follows due to not wanting to be left behind and possibly peer pressure.
* PaperThinDisguise: Nopony initially recognizes Troubleshoes under his disguise as a rodeo clown (not even after he loses his wig), despite him being the only equine around way bigger than the average pony. It takes his clown makeup being washed off by water and his red nose falling off for the public to finally recognize him.

* PigLatin: Troubleshoes yells "Amscray!" to the Crusaders before he nearly kicks them out of his home.

** Initially subverted. When Applejack and Braeburn initially tell Sheriff Silverstar that Troubleshoes kidnapped the CMC, Silverstar initially says that Troubleshoes has never done something like that, making him an unlikely suspect. When Applejack asks if he's willing to take that chance, however, Silverstar and his officers are off and running after just a few seconds of thought and are able to find Troubleshoes before too long.
** Then it's played straight when Apple Bloom tricks Silverstar into abandoning his post so she and the other Crusaders can free Troubleshoes.
* PoorCommunicationKills: A downplayed version, as Applejack rushes the CMC away before they can explain what Troubleshoes is really like, but the next scene shows that they wouldn't have been able to help much anyway due to their reluctance to admit to sneaking out.

* ReactiveContinuousScream: Upon seeing Troubleshoes come in the door of his cabin, the Cutie Mark Crusaders scream, startling him and making him scream back in a panic.

* UnusualEuphemism: Sheriff Silverstar mutters "sugar and saltlicks" as a curse when he discovers Troubleshoes's hoofprint.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Troubleshoes himself, in that nobody seems to call attention to the fact that he's about four times the size of the average pony.
* WorstWhateverEver: Sweetie Belle mutters to herself that the Crusaders trying to track down Troubleshoes by themselves is the "worst idea ever."
